The Day I Quit My Job

Management requested a phone meeting. The meeting was to take place the next morning at 9:00am. Morning arrived. As the call began, the normal pleasantries were expressed. Then we got down to business.

Management said, “We’re cutting our work force by 10%. You have two options: accept another position within the company or accept the severance package we have for you.” I said, “Please tell me more about the severance package.” Three days later, I submitted my resignation letter and accepted the severance package.

When this went down, I was elated! I felt free! I could spend more time with my family and fully immerse myself into doing what I really loved to do. Up until this point, I never could just go all out. Now I could.

I lived and learned a valuable lesson. Beware of “blood money”! I was making a 6-figure plus salary, but the personal cost was too great. That cost took me away from my family for 10+ days per month (due to travel requirements). It also took me away from my passion (empowering the youth for success). This went on for 8 years. It wasn’t work it.

I believe doing what you love is the cornerstone of having abundance in your life! Identify what’s important to you and tend to it! You only live once!
